Hottest Gaming News of the Month: October 2009

October promised to be a colossal month for video games and for all gamers, and in a way, it delivered! It was a big month for consoles, with the launch of the new PlayStation Portable, the PSPgo from Sony, with the news that a new 250 GB PS3 would be coming in early November, and with Nintendo announcing a new large-screen DSi LL. Also making waves in October was the release of the highly anticipated music title DJ Hero, FIFA 10’s record breaking launch, and the Need for Speed franchise reaching a milestone of a hundred million copies sold. Other important developments in October include Dragon Age: Origins, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and NFS Nitro all going gold, plus the rumour that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 would be delayed.

October 2009 Video Games

Sony’s much talked about new handheld console, the PSPgo hit retail stores in the month of October, and this threw up a lot of excitement and buzz among the gaming community with its digital content distribution, sliding screen, and stylish looks. But as Sony stressed, it was not being put out to replace the existing PSP. Next is the news of the release of Activision’s DJ Hero, the much-anticipated music-based title. The game adds innovation to innovation and comes with a turntable controller, which lets players scratch, mix and crossfade their way to DJ-ing success.

Also up there is the news that there will be another slim PS3 with 250 GB of hard drive space. This console pushes the limits of a gaming, media and entertainment console and can be used to store plenty of pictures, movies, games and even to view Blu-ray movies. October also saw the Need for Speed franchise reach a record one hundred million copies sold, and a record-breaking launch for the very highly anticipated EA Sports title FIFA 10.

Besides these captivating titles, the much anticipated games namely Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and Need for Speed: Nitro have both gone Gold. The former title is already out while the latest installment in the acclaimed NFS franchise is set to zoom onto consoles complete with its smashing soundtracks on November 6, 2009. Another noteworthy game that went gold in the past month was Dragon Age: Origins. The offering from BioWare went gold on the PS3, PC and Xbox 360 platforms. Players can grab their copy of the game when it releases on November 3, 2009.

Coming to some more console news, just a couple of days ago there was word about a new Nintendo DSi LL being announced by the Japanese gaming company, Nintendo. Apparently this latest iteration of the DSi sports a larger 4.2 inch screen. Along with its normal standard stylus, the new handheld system also boasts of a fatter stylus and is expected to be available in three vibrant hues namely natural white, dark brown and wine red.

We finally round up this month’s hottest news with a spicy speculation looming around the gaming world. Rumour had it that the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 had been delayed by two whole weeks. The highly-awaited title was earlier thought to release on November 10 this year. This date has now been apparently pushed forward to November 24, 2009. No word as yet on whether the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions would be out in its designated time or not.
