John Yamamoto, president and CEO of Square Enix said, “Crystal Defenders is a great new addition to Xbox Live Arcade. It’s simple to understand and easy to pick-up and play, but there is a great depth to the game and an addictive quality that make it ideal for the platform. I hope that many people experience and enjoy it.”

Certain powerful crystals are used to maintain peace in a land overrun by the use of power and “magick”. A youthful “moogle” entrusted with guarding these crystals, hears of evil trying to get its hands on them. He beckons heroes from the far reaches to help him defend against the threat.

In Crystal Defenders, players can use characters from the Final Fantasy Tactics series and battle hordes of monsters on a variety of maps. In Japan in January 2008, Crystal Guardians was released for mobile phones, and then in December 2008 the game was released for the iPhone 3G, iPod and iPod Touch under the name Crystal Defenders.
