FIFA 13 Improvements Promise Greater Unpredictability, Smarter Players

There are those who are extremely suspicious of the number 13, avoiding it at every opportunity, and then there’s Electronic Arts. The gaming giant has now shed some light on what it pegs as ‘game-changing innovations’ for FIFA 13. Five of them to be exact.

Commenting on the reveal, David Rutter, Executive Producer for FIFA 13 said, “We are perfecting the best sports game in the world with innovations that capture all the drama and unpredictability of real-world football. These are game-changing innovations that will revolutionize our artificial intelligence, dribbling, ball control and collisions to create a true battle for possession across the entire pitch, and deliver freedom and creativity in attack.”

The all-new ‘Attacking Intelligence’ gives strikers and players barraging forward a tactical, calculating edge, and is said to bring to the franchise off-the-ball vision. Probably the most interesting of the additions is the ‘FIFA 13 1st Touch Control’ scheme adding uncertainty when receiving the ball. The more wayward and unruly the pass, the harder it is for a player to bring the ball under control. This feature also takes into consideration a player’s skill level.

The other major changes added into FIFA 13 include a new generation of the physics engine used in the game, the ability to take and defend dead-ball situations with greater guile, as well as more precise dribbling with an increased set of related abilities such as shielding the ball and avoiding tackles.

Besides these, we understand there will be a revamped career mode based on suggestions from fans. For those who can’t get enough of the online experience, EA has padded in enhancements to the EA Sports FIFA online offering such as the Head-to-Head Seasons mode, and there are even several new features to EA Sports Football Club.

The FIFA 13 release dates are spread over the coming fall period. The game will hit retailers worldwide for PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, PS Vita, PS2, PSP, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and a host of other mobile devices. We hope to hear more soon, and we’ll keep our ears perked.
