Heath Bell, pitcher for the San Diego Padres was grossly overweight, at least for a professional athlete. But during the off-season he worked hard to lose those few extra pounds. And he did it using the Wii Fit game, Mlb.com is reporting.
He played with his kids and made a Wii avatar of himself. “That was disappointing,” Heath Bell sighed. “It weighed me the first time and said I was obese. That sucked. I lost a couple of pounds and it said I was still obese. I guess it was an eye-opener.”
Bell apparently started playing the game just for fun with his three children but soon realized the power of the game. “It started out that way, but then I tried the yoga and the strength training and I found that I was sweating every single time. I figured, ‘Why not do this once in a while?’ So I began playing and my wife and kids thought I was crazy because I was sweating so much,” he said.
Bell is said to have ended up losing 25 pounds and getting fit in time for the season.
