NBA 2K has been around since 1999 when it was exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast. Now 2K Sports has revealed that the cover athlete and spokesman for NBA 2K10 will be LA Laker and eleven time NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant, who has just led the Lakers to an impressive 65-17 regular season record.
“I’ve been playing sports video games for as long as I can remember and honestly, I’ve never seen one come so close to replicating real basketball. What 2K Sports has done is truly incredible and I’m proud to be a partner with them and on the cover of NBA 2K10,” Los Angeles Laker, Kobe Bryant commented. “2K Sports is constantly improving and adding something new to their game every year that makes them better and better, and that’s exactly what I try to do each season with my game. It’s as if 2K Sports has been on a sports video game championship run for several years now, and I’m not even sure there’s a word for that kind of dominance.”
2K Sports has brought on director Spike Lee, who is a New York Knicks fan, to produce a TV spot which reveals Kobe Bryant as the NBA 2K10 cover athlete. Spike Lee has directed the Kobe Bryant documentary, Kobe Doin’ Work.
Speaking on the appointment of Kobe Bryant as cover athlete for NBA 2K10, Lee said, “It’s quite obvious why 2K Sports put Kobe Bryant on the cover of NBA 2K10, which is the best NBA video game. One day Kobe and I will go 1 on 1 playing NBA 2K10.”
2K Sports invites fans to vote for their favorite game cover on a dedicated voting site. There are four different covers to choose from, and one of them has Kobe in a New York jersey. Voting is open until June 15, 2009 and the cover which receives the most votes until then, will be revealed on June 16, 2009 to be the officially NBA 2K10 cover.
Prices for NBA 2K10 have not been announced but the game is scheduled to be released this fall for the PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and Windows PC.
