DOA: Paradise Is Not “Softcore Porn”, says Game Director

Dead or Alive: Paradise is an upcoming game in development with Team Ninja which carries a marketing slogan “Paradise in the palm of your hand.” But game director Yoshinori Ueda has said that the PSP game is not supposed to be softcore pornography or degrading towards women.

Dead or Alive: Paradise

“That’s certainly not something we’re intentionally going for,” Ueda told Eurogamer.net. “From our perspective, we’re trying to make beautiful women, that has been the focus – we want our characters to be beautiful. The DOA characters are strong and that they look the way they do is based on trying to bring out the beauty of women.”

“We’re certainly not trying to degrade women. They have beautiful bodies. We’re trying to show off the beauty of their bodies but we’re not trying to be degrading about it – we’re trying to show that they are beautiful characters,” he added. “It’s not that we were trying to make softcore porn. That’s definitely not the goal.”

Dead or Alive: Paradise has many bikini clad women and features several mini-games like playing beach volleyball, and casino games such as poker, blackjack and the slots. Players can even take pictures of the girls using a camera and compile them into an album. The game is set to release on April 2, 2010.
