New Orleans Children’s Hospital gets Video Game Donations by Sony

When you think of video games and charity, you do remember the Child’s Play Charity! But many video gaming companies are donating a lot of things and money to institutions these days. Now the NY Post is reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has donated video game consoles to the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.

Jeff Helminger is a recreational therapist for the hospital, where the games are placed in a ‘teen room’. He said, “Well, when you meet a kind in the room and they are sad and depressed, then when you get the child to come down to the teen room, the environment changes. As music and videos games are on in the background the kids will start to socialize and start to enjoy the environment. We here at the hospital start to see how they act if they where out side in a normal environment.”

Sony donated the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable consoles along with two HDTVs. These donations were made on the NBA All-Star weekend. And as though that wasn’t enough, Sony was kind to understand that the consoles and televisions would need some kind of a trolley. So they also donated rolling storage systems that allow the hospital staff to transport the consoles throughout the hospital.
