Full PSP CPU Speed Confirmed by Sony

When PSP firmware 3.50 was released in May, there were speculations that underclocking restrictions were removed from the hardware. Now, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEA) has confirmed to Shacknews that game developers can fully exploit the PSP’s CPU!

PSP on full speed!

Previously, developers who used to make games for the PSP could only use a lower processing speed so as to conserve battery life of the handheld console. But a Sony representative has stated that this availability of the PSP’s full CPU speed will only be available for in-development titles. Games that were released previously for the PSP will continue to function at the speed they were originally programmed for. They will not see any sort of transformation in performance or battery life.

The availability of full CPU speed to PSP game developers has fueled more speculations that Sony will come out with a PSP 2 with a longer battery life. As for the gamers who have a PSP, I don’t think so they should expect titles like Resistance: Fall of Man. But they can surely look forward to new games which will have kick-ass graphics!
