Wi-Fi Hindering 333 Mhz PSP

If you were one of those PSP fans who jumped with delight when it was revealed that the handheld will run on full speed, here is a piece of bad news for you! According to GameDaily.biz, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Portable cannot use its full CPU power simultaneously with the Wi-Fi on.

That means, gamers will not be able to play games with network gameplay. These games will not be able to fully exploit the 333MHz clock speed of the PSP. Reports about it were first posted on Beyond3D.

GameDaily.biz got in touch with Dave Karraker, who happens to be the senior director of corporate communications at SCEA. He said, “The recent firmware upgrade (3.50) that removed the restriction on the PSP’s CPU speed enables developers to utilize speeds either lower or higher than the default 222MHz, up to the full 333MHz clock speed. The article is correct that increased CPU speed cannot be used with the PSP’s wireless feature. SCEA is working closely with the development community to take full advantage of this new functionality where appropriate for their titles.”

However, there is still confusion over the possible reasons about these problems that the PSP faces. SCEA still will be following up the issue with the Japanese headquarters. Whatever it is, let’s hope PSP gamers, who are looking forward to God of War: Chains of Olympus would not be disappointed when the game is released!
