PS4 turns profitable even as approximately half of its owners are now Plus members

Believe it or not, Sony is reeling under some serious losses right now, and in such a case if a high-valued product such as the PS4 starts returning profits it should come as really good news to the company. Its boss Kaz Hirai has revealed this detail at a corporate strategy meeting, thus also disclosing that the new console is now all set to beat the record profits made by the PS2.

Sony seems to have recovered all its investment in the PS4 console’s development which is why all further earnings will be profits from here on. The company has reached this milestone following the sale of more than 7 million units worldwide. Moreover, there are also the sales of first-party games and subscriptions like PS Plus to be considered, among other things.

About the latter, Sony has said that approximately half of all PS4 owners are now Plus subscribers. This service enables them to play online, grab free games each month and also receive discounts on certain PS Store content. The Tokyo-based giant has two more big services lined up for release later this year, which it will hope would bring in more moolah.

PlayStation Now is one of them. It will act as a cloud-based gaming solution for indulging in older games on the PS4. The second such product is set to be a cloud-based TV-streaming service. It’s a strange thing that despite so many sales of the PS4 and an absolute triumph over the Xbox One in the first year, Sony has run into record losses.
