The Last of Us live-action film announced, Spider-Man director involved

Naughty Dog’s tremendously acclaimed The Last of Us has succeeded in creating a universe intriguing enough for Hollywood to take notice. Screen Gems has announced the signing of a deal with Sony that will involve the distribution of a live-action film based on the hit PS3 game. Sam Raimi, who is known to have directed the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire will be one of its producers.

The Last of Us

Although the director of this upcoming flick is still to be announced, much to the relief of fans, its screenplay will be penned by Neil Druckmann, the creative director for The Last of Us. According to Deadline, apart from Raimi and his Ghost Pictures, production of the film will also be handled by co-presidents of Naughty Dog, Evan Wells and Christophe Balestra and the game director for the title in question, Bruce Straley.

The film is expected to take years before it hits theaters, but the anticipation surrounding it has already reached places. Whether it will star the same characters or focus on completely new ones is the question of the hour right now. And if the former is true, who will be cast for the roles of Joel and Ellie. It is far too early to speculate on such things though.

The Last of Us was released by Sony for the PS3 in June last year, and was quick to grab immense player and critical acclaim for its intriguing cinematic story and its utterly engrossing gameplay. The atmosphere it created with its music and art is something fans of the game will be more excited to witness in its screen adaptation.
