Here’s how The Last of Us’ new multiplayer mode works [video]

Patch 1.03 for The Last of Us is rolling out worldwide through PSN currently, infusing the game with a completely new multiplayer mode dubbed Interrogation. This two-part 4 versus 4 mode becomes the first such big piece of content making its way to the much acclaimed game, and developer Naughty Dog has promised that fans can ‘expect a lot more to come over the next few months.’

The Last of Us

How Interrogation works
This objective-based game mode has rival factions of four members each fighting to open each other’s lockboxes for stealing the supplies inside. Now in order to find the locations of these lockboxes, you will need to interrogate the players from the opposing faction, which can be done either by shivving them or getting them into the down state and pressing triangle while next to them.

It is only after a team collects five interrogations that the location of the enemy’s lockbox is revealed. You must now attempt to open the lockbox before your opponents manage to collect five interrogations and open yours. The winning team of course, is the one which will open the opposing team’s lockbox first.

Multiplayer fixes
A number of changes to the game’s multiplayer have also been introduced through this update. The required range when reviving a teammate has been increased, while some improvements have even gone into the title’s matchmaking. Moreover, the locations of item bins have been rebalanced for some places. Another big change is that special executions are now able to be halted by teammates.
