The Simpsons: Arcade Game Arriving on PSN Tomorrow

The Simpsons: Arcade Game will be launched this week through PSN, just days before the 500th episode of the series on which it is based will be telecast in the U.S. Originally released by Konami for arcades in 1991, this title is already available for download via Xbox Live.

As reported by us earlier, the game will be doled out for free to all PS Plus subscribers tomorrow. It has been revealed on the official PlayStation blog that though the title has been ported to the PS3, very few tweaks were introduced to it, in order to preserve the authenticity of the original arcade offering. A number of gameplay modes as well as bonus content will be seen making their way into this version, along with leaderboard support, Trophies, both US and Japanese ROMs and unlockable bonus content.

Charles Hefele, Assistant Producer, The Simpsons: Arcade Game, stated on the blog, “Speaking as a lifelong Simpsons fan, I’m just as excited for this game to come out as everyone else — the wait to finally see this game make its way to home consoles seemed endless! We worked closely with Gracie Films and Fox to time the release of the game with the 500th episode of The Simpsons so that fans of the show could experience the classic game during an important milestone for the series.”

The Freeplay mode in this title comprises the usual ‘unlimited continues’ arcade style that allows gamers to do an entire playthrough of the title without getting a gameover screen. Moreover, two different ‘Quarters’ modes and a ‘Survival’ mode also form part of the title.

PS Plus subscribers will be able to download The Simpson: Arcade Game for free from tomorrow. Its PSN pricing is yet to be confirmed.
