Back to Karkand DLC for Battlefield 3 Hitting PSN Next Week

The Back to Karkand DLC for the much loved Battlefield 3 will finally be made available via PSN on December 6, 2011 in both North American as well as European territories. According to a post on the official PlayStation blog, this DLC is slated to be launched for the Xbox 360 and PC a week later.

Battlefield 3 1

This new expansion pack comprises four classic maps form the previous Battlefield games that have been re-imagined with the Frostbite 2 technology. Three new vehicles – the VSTOL fighter jet, an APC and a Desert Buggy, would also make their way into this DLC alongside ten more weapons and a new layer of persistence. Moreover, PS3 gamers can achieve five new Trophies through this expansion. These include Silver and three Bronze achievements.

“The design idea for Back to Karkand is that these legendary maps have aged since you last saw them. If you are a returning veteran, you will feel instantly at home, but there will also be a sense of exciting rediscovery about them. If you have not played on the before, they are simply a great addition to the nine available multiplayer maps in Battlefield 3, building on all the strengths of the series,” Tommy Rydling, Jr. Product Manager, DICE, wrote on the blog.

Battlefield 3 2

The four maps that form a part of the Back to Karkand DLC are named Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman and Strike at Karkand, and are now more destructible than they were in the earlier game, thanks to the Frostbite 2 engine. The various assignments that enter this pack can be completed even in the earlier maps that are offered by the game.
