Sony Patents Single-Handed Game Controller Concept

Sony recently revealed its new motion controller device with a spherical structure on top. Now Siliconera is reporting that it seems Sony has filed a patent for a new type of controller for the PS3 with four face buttons, which is to be held and operated with one hand rather than with both hands.

Sony Single-Handed Controller

The patent was apparently filed in the US by Sony Computer Entertainment in which the new odd-looking device has been described as a “hand held game controller”. This raises many questions, like ‘What does Sony actually intend for this controller?’ At first glance it looks like something similar to Nintendo’s Nunchuk controller, but then the patent only shows face buttons.

As the Siliconera website speculates, it could be a new quiz style controller, possibly for a new entry in Sony’s Buzz series. At this point there is very little information on the new controller from Sony, and like most patents we might not even see this one materialize.
