PS3 Firmware (v3.10) Update Adds Facebook Integration, Coming Soon

Some time ago there was a rumour that Sony was planning a major Firmware Update for the PS3 which would bring Facebook integration, colourful gamercards and more to the PS3. Now a post on the PlayStation Blog by Eric Lampel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations has confirmed this, and gives a small preview of the next firmware update. The PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.10) Update will incorporate Facebook into the PS3.

Facebook coming to PS3

PS3 owners will be able to automatically update their Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. The update also enables game developers to set certain criteria in their titles to publish further game information to PS3 owners’ News Feed.

The Firmware (v3.10) Update will also modify the PSN Friends List, and users will be able to change the colour of their PSN ID on the XrossMediaBar. In addition, the Photo category on the XMB has been changed to make it easier to “see more of your photos stored on the PS3”.

No exact release date for the new firmware update has been announced, but it is expected to touch down soon.
