It’s wrong to say it’s harder to code on the PS3, says GRAW team

Many game developers have come out and openly criticized the PS3 saying it was way too hard to develop games for Sony’s next-gen console. But according to GamesIndustry.biz, the Ubisoft team developing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter has stated that developing titles for the PlayStation 3 is no harder than working on Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

GRAW: PS3 is as easy!

Yann Le Tensorer is the co-founder of Ubisoft’s Tiwak studio and co-creator of the Yeti engine that powers GRAW as well as the forthcoming Beowulf game. He said, “It’s wrong to say it’s harder to code on the PlayStation 3, it’s just something that needs to be learnt. It’s not harder to develop on the PS3 than it is on the 360, it’s just a different console. Developers might say it’s harder because it just takes time to understand the technology, we’re still early in the lifecycle.”

Le Tensorer went on to compare the PS2, saying that it was the same when it released and mentioned that his team was happy working on the PS3. This could come as a breather for Sony, whose next-gen console has been criticized by so many people. First it was John Carmack and later it was industry analyst Michael Pachter, who blamed the PS3 for GTA IV’s delay.
