One of the features that makes the PS3 truly next generation is its ability to play Blu-ray discs. Now DivX has sent word that their video technology will be integrated into the PS3. Millions of DivX Certified products are available in the market and now PS3 will drastically enlarge that number.
Kevin Hell is the chief executive officer of DivX. He quotes, “We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3. Our technology will increase the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”
As of now, DivX is working to certify PS3. Gamers will be able to add DivX functionality to their systems via a separate system software update at a forthcoming date. Not only that, developers who make games for the PS3 will be able to make use of DivX’s decoder.
