80 GB PS3 Announced, 60 GB PS3 Price Cut by Sony

First the rumors, then the denials and finally a press release! Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has finally come out and revealed that there exists an 80 GB PS3 that that will release in August 2007! It will cost $599 (approx. Rs. 24, 250) and will come packaged with MotorStorm.

Sony has also stated that they have cut the price of the 60 GB PS3 by $100. Now, it will cost $499 (approx. Rs. 20, 200). With the 80 GB PS3, gamers will now be able to store a lot of things as well as download more games and other entertainment content from PLAYSTATION Network.

Jack Tretton, President & CEO, SCEA says, “As we move into the next phase of PS3, it’s important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered. The introduction of the 80GB PS3, the new pricing for the current 60GB model, the availability of more than 100 new software titles this fiscal year and, finally, the expansion of services for PLAYSTATION Network, will provide even more options for users and will help bring new consumers into the PS3 fold.”

PS3 gamers can also expect 120 new first and third-party games like Folklore, Heavenly Sword, LAIR, Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Revo, and Stranglehold to name a few. However, there is no word whether Sony will cut the price of the PS3 in United Kingdom and Europe.
