Sony Restocks 60GB PS3 Online

Besides the lack of blockbuster titles, one of the other key reasons for low sales of the PS3 was its high price. However, Sony took steps and reduced the price of the 60 GB PS3 and also introduced an 80GB version. GamePro had reported that the 60 GB PS3 was internally out of stock, but now Sony clarified to them that they have restocked the online supply of the 60GB PS3.

Earlier, Sony’s Dave Karraker had told GamePro that his firm does not have any inventory of the 60 GB PS3 in SCEA warehouses and all the stocks had been procured and shipped to retailers. But now Sony has shifted the stocks to SonyStyle.com. In fact, GameSpot spoke to Dave Karraker who said that they do have sufficient inventory for anyone looking to purchase a PS3 in North America

Dave Karraker said, “The 60GB is not out of stock in the US. SonyStyle.com currently has a back order notice up on their site, but they are shifting some inventory and will have it available again soon. All we can say at this point is we have ample inventory for anyone looking to buy a PS3 in North America.”

The PS3 price cut by Sony had worked as it outsold the Xbox 360 in the month of July in North America. In fact, there was a huge spike in sales of the PS3. But there is no confirmation about future price cuts. The 20GB PS3 was stopped some time ago and now it seems that the 60 GB PS3 too would be out of stock soon. Moreover, SCEA head Kaz Harai had told a Norwegian gaming news website that Sony would only sell the 80GB PS3 after the 60 GB version is sold out.
