The coveted Sony PlayStation 3 has a removable top plate, just like the Xbox 360. Microsoft gave gamers the freedom and pleasure of allowing the face plate of their Xbox 360s to be fully interchangeable with any custom plate that met the dimensions of their consoles.
Now Sony appears to have gone the same way. Just by pressing a button on the side of the PlayStation 3, the top panel of the console pops right off. The warranty sticker is visible below the panel, so taking it off does not appear to void the warranty of the console.
Whether Sony intended for customizable tops is unknown, as we still haven’t seen cool top plates in the market. However it should be interesting to wait and watch whether other companies begin to release custom tops for the Sony PlayStation 3 in the coming months.
Microsoft, on the other hand has taken full advantage of its removable faceplates, and has launched colorful and game-related faceplates for gamers to enjoy.
