PS2 Most Played Console, World of Warcraft Tops PC Gaming In US In 2008

The Microsoft Xbox 360 was released in 2005 followed by the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, which were released a year later, which is in 2006. But one gaming console is still in homes all over the world, be it United States, India or Japan, the Sony PS2.

But still one would expect gamers in the US to be stuck to the Xbox 360 or the PS3 or the Wii, which has been doing tremendously well from the time of launch. However, a study by Nielsen has indicated that the PS2 was the most played console last year in the US. Nearly thirty-two percent of the total time played accounted for the PS2 gamers. What’s interesting to note is that even GameCube made to the list but only accounted for nearly five percent.

As for the game titles, the most played PC game, according to the Nielsen study, was World of Warcraft, which accounted to 671 minutes per week. The other games in the top five were Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Halo: Combat Evolved, The Sims and The Sims 2. Valve should also be happy as Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source made it to the top ten.
