The Sims 4 headed to PC and Mac in 2014

EA and Maxis have confirmed that The Sims 4 is under development, and should be ready to hit PC and Mac platforms sometime in 2014. This upcoming title will be the fourth main entry to the franchise which has also seen a flurry of spin-offs and online games coming its way. Very few details about it are available at the moment, but the game’s official site is live now, allowing fans to sign-up with their email ids for being the first to receive details when they are released.

The developers have specifically chosen to call it a ‘single-player offline experience.’ This could well be a move exercised citing fan backlash which had crossed all bounds when SimCity’s always-online requirement had led to the title being rendered almost unplayable to most who bought it. Although the damage was repaired by EA later through various updates and compensations, the apprehensiveness among fans still remains, and hence, the announcement of this new game being an offline offering will definitely be received with relief by them.

It has been revealed that the game will enable players to personalize their worlds with fresh intuitive tools. Moreover, they will even have the ability to seamlessly share their creations with friends and fans. It seems like some kind of a new sharing mechanic is all set to be present within it. The developers have mentioned that the massive community backing for the series is what ‘ignites the fire of creativity’ among their teams; this in turn leading them to continually improve and innovate upon their ideas within the title.

This best-selling PC franchise in the history of computer-based gaming has managed to sell off more than 150 million copies in total till date. It had begun when the first game under it came out in 2000, offering a completely fresh form of simulation. Its success was followed by two sequels and a number of spin-offs, which have only gone on to improve its stronghold on the gaming community.

More details about The Sims 4 are expected to emerge during the months to come. We’ll have more on it when additional information is out.
