PS Vita Slated for October Release?

If a Blockbuster UK flyer is to be believed, the PS Vita might as well ship as early as October 28 in the U.K. This Blockbuster which reveals major game releases later this year has marked both the Wi-Fi and the 3G versions of the next-gen handheld for an October release.

A reader informed IGN about the flyer but its validity is yet to be confirmed. Another speculation making the rounds is that the flyer might have been goofed up with a printing mistake. This is because the flow of dates from top to bottom is in a consecutive order – from September to November. But the PS Vita October date breaks the order as it comes after November.

Introduced by Sony in January, the product is being touted by the makers as being a ‘rich combination of gaming and social connectivity.’ Its name – Vita supposedly refers to a Latin word meaning ‘Life.’ The device is equipped with a front and rear touchpad as well as a 5-inch multi-touch OLED screen.

Citing competition from Sony’s handheld Nintendo has lowered prices of its 3DS by a substantial amount. This could very well compel Sony to go for an early release. At this year’s E3 however, it was announced that the PS Vita will be launched only during the holiday-shopping season and will be priced at $249 for the Wi-Fi model and $299 for the 3G one.

The status on the handheld on Blockbuster’s pre-order listing still reads ‘TBA.’ Hence showing total belief on the flyer might be a little impractical. We’ll surely keep you posted with any further developments.
