CD Projekt Red already working on next game, could be a Witcher title

The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red may be busy finishing the mammoth offering that Cyberpunk 2077 is right now, but that hasn’t stopped the developer-publisher from working on another title. A report tells us that the company has already started work on another new single-player game. They have however made it clear that it’s not Witcher 4, but there are a few factors from the report that indeed point to the fact that it’s at least based in the Witcher universe.

As per Eurogamer, CD Projeckt Red’s CEO Adam Kiciński broke this news at a Polish conference recently, while also making it clear once again that “there will be no Witcher 4.” He even added, “I clearly said that Witcher was a trilogy. Simultaneously, we’ve always emphasized that we want to create Witcher games and the agreement with Mr. Sapkowski confirmed our rights.”

Moreover, he has also mentioned that “We have two worlds and we want to create games in those two worlds. That’s why all planned games are either Witcher or Cyberpunk.” This only leaves space for a new Witcher game to be under development, albeit not featuring the Geralt storyline. Perhaps a prequel then? We guess we’ll have to wait for a few more years to know that.

Despite having a more than 800-strong team, CD Projekt Red takes years to complete development on its titles. Cyberpunk 2077 for instance, was announced way back in 2012, while full-time development on it began in 2016, after the release of the final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to be released this April, but will now be arriving on the PS4, the Xbox One and PC on September 17. The game is also planned to hit Stadia and next-gen consoles in the future.
