The classic game that System Shock was could very well get a reboot soon, even as Nightdive Studios has started a Kickstarter campaign for it. What’s all the more exciting is that even before the game gets funded, the makers have released a short demo of it that can be downloaded for free.
This demo of the System Shock reboot can be grabbed right now through Steam, GOG and Humble. Nightdive Studios is looking to receive $900000 in funding, and has already reached the $368000 mark with around a month remaining for the campaign to end.
It’s surely targeting fans of the original game which was launched way back in 1994. This action RPG is known for its skillful use of a 3D engine, its physics simulation and its incorporation of complex gameplay. These have influenced a lot of big games after that, including BioShock and Deus Ex.
System Shock takes place onboard a space station in a cyberpunk imagining of the year 2072. The player is put into the shoes of a nameless hacker who is trying to obstruct the plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence called SHODAN.
Apart from PC, the System Shock reboot is also supposed to land on the Xbox One. If funded, the game is expected to be ready for a December 2017 release. While it was first being viewed as a remaster of the original, its developers have suddenly started calling it just System Shock, suggesting that it will be a remake of the 1994 game.
Like we said, the demo version of the System Shock reboot can be downloaded free of cost right now via Steam, Humble or GOG. Those who like it can consider backing it on Kickstarter with a minimum commitment of $5 and a maximum of $10000.
