The Diablo 3 Auction House always was a feature which was quite scoffed for its insignificance, and Blizzard has finally decided to shut it down. The company has announced that this trait which allows gamers to trade loot using real money or in-game gold will be taken down on March 18, 2014. This will be in preparation for the launch of the first ever expansion pack for Diablo 3, titled Reaper of Souls, which is still to get a release date by the way.

Just as he mentions in the video down below, John Hight who’s the production director on the expansion, thinks that the game’s Auction House actually ”˜undermines’ Diablo’s core gameplay which involves killing monsters to get cool loot. This is one of the reasons the developers have decided to eliminate the feature completely. The removal will also make way for the Loot 2.0 system which is being developed to debut alongside Reaper of Souls. Loot 2.0 has been created in a way that it will result in a much more rewarding game experience for players.
Diablo 3 was first released for PC and Mac back in May 2012. Although it was met with incredibly positive reviews, the game’s DRM restrictions and some grave problems it brought along were severely criticized. Despite that, Diablo 3 is one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time. Early this month, the title also made its console debut by making its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it’s also slated to hit the PS4 next year.
Those wanting to play around more with the Diablo 3 Auction House have a lot of time on their hands, since it’s supposed to be taken down in March next year.
