Project Eternity is Obsidian Entertainment’s new project, it’s on Kickstarter

Obsidian Entertainment has turned to the masses for the funding of its upcoming RPG titled Project Eternity which is live on Kickstarter now with a goal of 1.1 million USD. This title will be an isometric, party-based RPG which will transpire in a completely new fantasy universe. It has already managed to garner more than 782,000 USD (at the time of publishing) on the crowd-funding site, with 31 days to go for its stint to end.

This is essentially a PC title which is said to pay a tribute to the iconic Infinity Engine games from the past like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment. Obsidian has taken to Kickstarter as it has apparently been ‘almost impossible’ for the studio to receive funding via traditional methods. With regards to the goal of 1.1 million being too large, the developer has responded by saying that this project is a completely new franchise with a whole new world requiring a fresh RPG system, art, characters, animations as well as lore and dialogue.

“Our relationship with you can be even closer with Kickstarter. We can be more transparent with development and give you an inside look to what goes on day-to-day with the programmers, artists, and designers of Project Eternity. We want to give you a behind the scenes look at the game’s development, and we have fun stuff planned like developer blogs, web broadcasts, dev chats, and much, much more,” an excerpt from the game’s Kickstarter description reads.

Some details about Project Eternity have also been disclosed by the developer whose works include the likes of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas and the upcoming South Park: The Stick of Truth. The new title will make use of a tactical real-time combat system with a pause feature. Gamers will create their own characters and will be allowed to pick up companions along the way.
