One of the most anticipated games right now – The Last of Us 2 – will finally be released for the PS4 on June 19. However, the kind of buzz that’s surrounding the game also makes it worthy of being a PS5 launch game. That’s an issue that has certainly been taken care of by Sony and Naughty Dog. PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has confirmed that the game will indeed be made ready to run on the PS5.
“We hope this is a defining game for the generation,” he said to CENT before adding that the game “will run on the PS5 without issue.” Reports have already told us that PS5 cross-gen support is mandatory for all PS4 games submitted (not released) for publication after July 13. While The Last of Us was submitted way before that, it seems to have made an exception, which is no surprise, given the popularity of the franchise.
The Last of Us has arrived in the review stables ahead of its June 19 release. It takes its predecessor’s survival horror roots forward with a continuation of its story. But instead, this time the main playable character is a grown-up Ellie, who comes into conflict with a mysterious Christian cult in a post-apocalyptic United States.
The Last of Us was released back in 2013 for the PS3 and was brought onto the PS4 in the year that followed. Apart from grabbing several Game of the Year awards, it also went on to become one of the best-selling video games of all time, moving over 1.3 million units in its first week.
Sony is all set to host a livestream on June 4 to showcase some new PS5 games. And as for The Last of Us, it’s still on course for a June 19 release.
