Ghost of Tsushima becomes Sony’s fastest-selling new PS4 IP

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima has gone on to become Sony’s fastest-selling original IP on the PS4. The samurai adventure managed to sell off more than 2.4 million copies over its first three days worldwide, as announced by the official PlayStation Twitter account. It has beaten the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone and Dreams, which too were Sony’s original IPs that debuted on this console generation.

Despite this, Ghost of Tsushima has fallen significantly short of matching the weekend sales of The Last of Us 2, which had managed to sell over 4 million copies in just two days. This made it the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive ever. It also remains this year’s fastest-selling console game to date. Ghost of Tsushima was the only recent game that could have broken this record but that hasn’t come to be.

“Ghost of Tsushima is now PS4’s fastest-selling first-party original IP debut with more than 2.4 million units sold through globally in its first 3 days of sales. Congratulations @SuckerPunchProd, and thank you to fans around the world for taking part in Jin’s journey,” wrote the PlayStation Twitter account.

Developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima is an open world action-adventure game that lets you assume the role of Jin Sakai, one of the last samurai on Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. It features a large open world without any waypoints and can be explored without guidance.

Ghost of Tsushima has received favorable reviews from critics and gamers alike. Only mild criticism has been directed towards its open-world activities. However, everything from its combat to its story has been appreciated. And most importantly, the game’s visuals have been praised for their richness and their realness.
