Minecraft Accomplishes 2.5 Million Sales

Sales charts and balance sheets undoubtedly play a major role when it comes to a game’s future. And it appears that the path of success for Mojang’s Minecraft has been laid well before it sees the light of day.

In a tweet on the microblogging site Twitter, Markus ‘Notch’ Persson recently highlighted that Minecraft has achieved a milestone with over 2.5 million sales. Although still in its beta stage, the game has been garnering affirmative responses from enthusiasts across the domain. In December 2010, it reached a user-base of more than 2.5 million alongside approximately 850,000 sold units.

This sandbox building indie video game has been developed in classic, beta and full versions. Its classic version was launched on the PC in May 2009. The developer tossed out the paid beta version of the game in December last year. It incorporates the ability to allow players to throw eggs by employing a server-side inventory system.

Minecraft’s full version has been scheduled to advent for the PC in November 2011.
