Valve to Offer Music, Video Downloads?

Though many companies might whine about online piracy, the business of offering paid downloads legally is pretty huge. Ask Apple about it! Valve, whose Steam service offers game downloads, is planning to offer stuff like TV shows, movies and music. Doug Lombardi spoke to Tom’s Games and said that they are looking at it.

Doug Lombardi is the vice president of marketing at Valve. He explains, “We are looking at more casual games and international games. And we are also looking at other types of content like video and music. We are definitely having those conversations and meetings, and we’re reaching out to folks with other types of digital entertainment. I think before the end of the year, you’ll probably see some pilot programs with other digital entertainment on Steam.”

Valve would surely not have any trouble with offering TV shows, movies and music through Steam as they have enough experience offering game downloads. Besides new types of content, Doug Lombardi also spoke on Half-Life 2: Episode Three. He mentioned that they will not be rushing it and said that they do not have a specific roadmap yet for the launch of the game.
