Next-Gen MMO, StarCraft 2 Announcement in May 2007?

Blizzard is planning to make some big announcements in May 2007 at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. Representatives of the company have revealed that they will reveal new games on May 19. It is being speculated that Blizzard will unveil a next-gen MMO as well as StarCraft 2.

A Blizzard spokesperson told gaming blog Kotaku, “We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to return to that universe at some point in the future, but we don’t have anything new to announce in that regard presently.”

A Korean website first posted the news about the new Blizzard Games. Incidentally, Blizzard Worldwide Invitational takes place on May 19 & 20 at the Olympic Gymnastics and Fencing Stadiums in Seoul, South Korea.

A next-gen MMO by Blizzard was rumored a long time ago, but at that time, they did not reveal anything. In fact, Blizzard has also posted a requirement for a “Lead Engine Programmer – Next-Gen MMO” on their website. Keep watching this space for more details.
