Sony Talks about Store for PSP

Two weeks ago, Sony had announced that the PlayStation Store would be accessible through the PC. But there were many gamers who wanted to access it directly through their PlayStation Portable. Now Eric Lempel who is the director of network operations for PlayStation has said that they are considering a store for the PSP.

In an interview with MTV, he was asked whether gamers would be able to access the store by just using their PSP. To which, Eric Lempel replied, “Clearly that’s something we’re thinking about. With the capability of the PSP it’s something that should be possible, so it’s definitely something we’re thinking about. It’s just a matter of priorities and some technology that we need to make it all work right and make sure the content is delivered securely, just to protect some of our (intellectual properties). Yeah it’s definitely something we’re thinking about.”

In fact, Lempel also explained the reasons as to why they released it on the PC first. He mentioned that it was easier to launch the PlayStation Store on the PC and they have to overcome technical challenges like making a different type of navigation and browsing system for the portable gaming machine. He noted that devices like iPod don’t go online but said that Sony is planning to get an iTunes-style synchronization feature that will enable gamers to automatically get new videos and game demos.
