Electronic Arts to Develop The Lord of the Rings: The White Council

Lord of the Rings: The White Council Electronic Arts announced The Lord of the Rings: The White Council, which is a large scale open world role playing game set in Middle-earth as depicted in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, with an original storyline taken from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels.

Steve Gray, executive producer, The Lord of the Rings, The White Council, says, “Our extremely talented and dedicated team is committed to creating an incredible new experience for fans of The Lord of the Rings and role playing gamers. With its next generation gameplay and epic new storyline, we think The Lord of the Rings, The White Council will be a huge success.”

Very few details were specified in the announcement beyond a list of playable character races and the player’s ultimate goal: to become allied with the White Council, which consists of characters such as Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond. Gamers can choose to play as a man, an elf, a dwarf, or a hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings, The White Council will release in late 2007 on PC, PS3 and the Xbox 360 platforms.
