PSN Registered Accounts Exceed 50 Million Worldwide

Last March Sony revealed that the PlayStation Network has just a little over 20 million registered accounts. Now Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that as of June 14, 2010 the cumulative number of registered accounts on the PlayStation Network has exceeded 50 million worldwide. The services of the PSN have been extended to over 58 countries and regions around the world.

PlayStation Network

Launched in November 2006, the PlayStation Network reached 10 million registered accounts in 1 year and 8 months, 20 million in 2 years and 3 months, and now has crossed 50 million in 3 years and 8 months. The PSN service is available for both the PS3 and the PSP, and both console systems have sold a combined total of 97 million units around the world.

The PlayStation Network offers a wide variety of online content and services including online gaming, video chat, and text message, in addition to downloadable games, and video and comic content. Sony’s recently announced PlayStation Plus subscription service package starts on June 29, 2010 and is aimed at delivering an enhanced entertainment experience.

SCE plans to further expand the entertainment experience on the PS3 and PSP, and deliver more through the PSN.
