Star Trek Online to expand with Season Three: Genesis

The MMORPG Star Trek Online’s launch earlier saw much anticipation depositing on its account before it hit servers back in February this year. Now, after ‘Common Ground’ and ‘Ancient Enemies’, STO’s virtual universe is extending this December with Season Three: Genesis, the latest installment for the game from Atari and Cryptic Studios.

The newest update is reported to include additional changes, new features and numerous upgrades to the game. Allowing players to craft personalized missions in STO, Cryptic’s player-created content system The Foundry opens up for public beta with Season Three: Genesis. While Cryptic’s proprietary content rating system makes certain that only the best missions ascend, the system also enables players to put their designs on display.

Borg technology, a new ‘loot’ from Special Task Force missions, can be integrated into players’ ships which enhances a marine vessels’ usefulness and its superficial feature-set. Gamers will be offered to replay each of the earlier missions with a few of them featuring all-new rewards. Sector Space is reported to become more realistic in its appearance and feel as the developer has revised the arena with a new outlook.

Moreover, Cryptic is conducting ‘Design the Next Enterprise’ contest where players get to design a ship of their own and send it back to the developers. While the best one of all the submissions is reported to be converted into a ship in Star Trek Online, a couple of prizes will also be offered at the end of the competition.

The Star Trek Online player-base can lay their hands on Season Three: Genesis for free on December 9, 2010. The ‘Design the Next Enterprise’ challenge starts in conjunction with Genesis’ release.
