Look at the things Sony has to do to make PS3 Home as popular as the Xbox Live. Sony Europe boss Phil Harrison has stated that porn could be privately uploaded on PlayStation Home and Sony would not mind it!
In an interview with the semi-official PlayStation blog Three Speech, he was asked about the possibility of users uploading porn on the private space in the PlayStation Home. Phil Harrison replied, “Well I’m disappointed that you would use those as the first questions. I think Home should be used for a much wider and more beneficial scope than that, but I think that people can express their creativity inside Home in a wide variety of ways and it is not necessarily for us to dictate what that should be. However, if somebody feels uncomfortable about an encounter on Home, it’s very easy for them to ban that person from their friends list…”
He later added, “Your friends list is here just the same way as it is on the PlayStation network, it appears inside the virtual PSP and you can make all the same changes to it.”
Well it is a good thing that Sony does not want to ‘dictate’ what users upload, but if they allow porn on the PS3 Home, I don’t think that it would be digested by government officials in some of the countries. It could even affect the sales of the PS3 as some parents would be concerned about their children and they could instead buy the Wii or the Xbox 360.
