Nintendo Announces New Social Entertainment Products

Nintendo strives to deliver innovative and fun video game experiences which stretch into the realms of social experiences. Now Nintendo has announced its new range of social entertainment products which are aimed at expanding the preset notion of video games that people have.

“Nintendo continues to challenge how both new and longtime players perceive and play – video games,” Nintendo of America’s Executive VP of Sales & Marketing, Cammie Dunaway stated. “From modern updates of our most iconic franchises to the introduction of inventive devices, we are continuing to add entirely new dimensions to the video game experience.”

For the Wii home console:

The Wii MotionPlus technology gives utmost precision and allows 3D movements to be accurately mapped. The limits of motion gaming will expand and the accessory will support a number third party games which are due to launch in the upcoming weeks. The Wii MotionPlus accessory will be available starting June 8, 2009 for a price of 19.99 USD (approx. Rs. 935).

Wii Sports Resort combines a dozen activities with resort themes into one innovative game which is compatible with the Wii MotionPlus. The game extends Nintendo’s pick up and play line-up of games. Wii Sports Resort will come bundled with the Wii MotionPlus accessory for 49.99 USD (approx. Rs. 2,340) on June 26, 2009.

Another one of Nintendo’s innovative games is the Wii Fit Plus offering six new strength exercises, six new yoga exercises as well as 15 new balance games. Players can choose from a number of specialized workout routines such as stress reduction, tummy toning and tightening arms. Wii Fit Plus comes bundled with a Wii Balance Board and will be available in the fall of 2009.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the 3D game in which Mario takes his dinosaur Yoshi to faraway stars and worlds. The game gives fans a new round of outrageous challenges which were first introduced in the original game. Super Mario Galaxy 2 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2010. Another Mario game is ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ planned for this holiday season. The game features many side-scrolling worlds for players to navigate in either competitive or co-operative multiplayer modes.

Metroid Other M Screenshot

Metroid: Other M for the Nintendo Wii is being developed by Team Ninja and delivers gameplay filled with action and excitement. The game focuses on the back story of the deep-space bounty hunter Samus Aran. Metroid: Other M will be available in 2010. Nintendo also announces a new product, the Wii Vitality Sensor. The sensor picks up a number body signals from the user such as the pulse. It then provides information about the “body’s inner world”.

For the Nintendo DS and DSi:

Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story is a new installment in the role playing franchise from Nintendo and players literally find themselves in the “belly of the beast”. The game is for both the DS and the DSi systems and will release in the fall of 2009. The second Mario game announced for the Nintendo DSi is Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, which is the third chapter in the franchise. The game will be available as DSiWare on June 8, 2009 for 800 Nintendo DSi Points and will see Mario square off against long standing rival Donkey Kong.

Other titles for both DS and DSi systems include Golden Sun DS and WarioWare D.I.Y. Golden Sun DS is expected to arrive in 2010 while WarioWare D.I.Y. will allow gamers to design their own micro-games from the ground up. In addition to the games, Nintendo DSi users will be able to upload pictures onto social networking website Facebook using Facebook Connect. This summer there will also be a Nintendo DSi system update.
