Junction Point to give Wii Disney Epic Mickey game

Many will agree that Walt Disney has left behind an unforgettable legacy with his memorable cartoon characters. Disney Interactive Studios has revealed the development of a Wii game called Disney Epic Mickey by Warren Spector, Junction Point game development studio. The venture will bring Mickey Mouse, Yen Sid and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit into Cartoon Wasteland in a game for the Wii platform.

The gameplay requires players to re-shape the Cartoon Wasteland by utilizing the Wii remote. Magical paint and thinner may be wielded to create or bring ruin. Mickey’s powers and appearance will be decided by the choices the player makes. He is characterized as a protagonist thrust into turmoil by his own inadvertent mistake. Every decision the gamer makes has an impact on the ambience, character interactions and so on.

“Having Warren combine creativity and innovation with one of the world’s most famous characters takes Mickey back to his creative roots and allows fans to deepen their engagement with him as a character – especially in video games. In addition to Warren’s lifelong love of cartoons, films and comics, his visionary approach to game design and storytelling will make certain that this heroic tale of discovery and redemption resonates with Disney fans and gamers alike ,” enthused Graham Hopper, executive VP and general manager, Disney Interactive Studio.

Disney character Yen Sid is the creator of Cartoon Wasteland in the game. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the first of Walt Disney’s animated stars makes Sid’s twisted wasteland comfortable for the rest of the inhabitants. Unfortunately, disaster strikes when Mickey makes an unintentional mistake when he comes across Yen Sid’s map. Oswald’s world is destroyed and Mickey is dragged into the chasms of Cartoon Wasteland to encounter the damage he set off.

“The core of this game is the idea of choice and consequence, and how that defines both the character and the player,” explained Warren Spector, game designer, Junction Point. “By putting the mischievous Mickey in an unfamiliar place and asking him to make choices – to help other cartoon characters or choose his own path – the game forces players to deal with the consequences of their actions. Ultimately, players must ask themselves, ‘What kind of hero am I?’ Each player will come up with a different answer.”
