Ranger GPS Navigation System for Nintendo’s DS Lite

Nintendo’s DS line has been competing with Sony’s PSP right from the start. The PSP already has a GPS feature, and now technology news site Dvice reports that thanks to China’s Fab Chain, the Nintendo DS Lite gets GPS enabled as well.

Ranger For DS Lite

Fab Chain has developed a device called the Ranger, which attaches to the DS Lite to give it GPS navigation capabilities. The Ranger features maps from Google Earth and allows for a 2D and a pseudo-3D view. The device even has a 32 MB Extended Memory function and comes with its own battery supply which is rechargeable, so as not to drain the DS Lite’s batteries. The Ranger utilizes a U-Blox GPS receiver and can even connect to PDAs and laptops via USB.

This seems like a great device, but being an extremely new product, the availability of the Ranger is quite limited. The official website does not list any vendors for the first GPS device for the DS system, and also pricing is not known.
