Angry Birds Space lands on Mars with Red Planet Update

Rovio’s partnership with NASA has brought out new content for Angry Birds Space in the form of the fresh Red Planet update which is live now for the Android and iOS versions of the game. The update focuses on NASA’s Curiosity rover which successfully landed on Mars recently.

Angry Birds Space

The new content has the pigs hijacking the Curiosity Mars Rover, only to strip it off its actual mission of searching for life on the planet and turning it into their own vehicle to search for eggs. A total of twenty levels are available to be jumped into. These will have gamers dodging explosive volcanoes, firing asteroids, and also fighting against a new astronaut pig. Special bonus levels are also to be unlocked by searching for three hidden rovers and landers.

“We’re huge NASA fans, and we were all cheering the Mars Curiosity rover as it touched down. So, working together on the Mars update was a perfect fit, especially since we got such an amazing response to our previous collaboration, the ‘Angry Birds Space: NASA announcement’ video, which quickly surged to the top of 2012’s viral video charts. We’re thrilled to continue working with NASA. Stay tuned for even more great fun and educational content coming up,” commented Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer of Rovio Entertainment.

As Vesterbacka mentioned, the collaboration with NASA resulted in the first ever game announcement which was done from space. The game also includes links to NASA’s activities which are aimed at providing a variety of educational information.
