One of the biggest sci-fi franchises of all time is Star Trek. A massively multiplayer game based on Star Trek was being developed by Perpetual Entertainment but it was marred by trouble. Now developers Cryptic Studios have sent word that they have taken over development of Star Trek Online.
Jack Emmert is the chief creative officer. He said, “When the opportunity came for Cryptic to obtain the license for Star Trek, we were absolutely thrilled. I realized how many people at Cryptic loved the IP when the possibility of us getting the rights leaked out to the rest of the company.”
Cryptic Studios did not reveal any more details about Star Trek Online MMO. However, new details of the game will be unveiled at the annual Star Trek Convention that takes place in Las Vegas on August 10, 2008. Cryptic Studios is also working on the Champions Online MMO.
