One million copies of Kinect Sports, Dance Central each retailed in US

It was just recently that the controller-free dance game Dance Central by Harmonix and Microsoft’s Kinect Sports hit retail store shelves across North America and Europe. Now according to chief of staff for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business Aaron Greenberg, both the games are topping 1 million sales figure in the United States for the month of December.

“Another NPD nugget… Kinect Sports and Dance Central are breakout hits, both selling 1 million units in US alone,” tweeted Aaron Greenberg on January 13, 2011.

This notable success of both the games was accounted in the year-end US retail sales report by the NPD Group. Moreover, Dance Central fell marginally short of slotting itself in the top ten US game sales for November, which was also the month of the game’s release that coincided with the launch of Kinect Sports. However, the company that reigned across the NPD Group’s charts was the gaming giant Nintendo with two of the United States’ best-selling consoles for the year 2010.

Sooner or later, the way the current gaming scenario is evolving, we could only anticipate more record-breaking games compatible with motion-sensing hardware products.
