Rare: Kinect Lag is “not an issue”

Microsoft’s Project Natal, now officially named Kinect, was demoed at this year’s E3 and certain titles for the device seemed to have a bit of a lag. But when quizzed about the lag in Kinect by Eurogamer.net, Microsoft owned developer Rare stated that lag is “not an issue” with the Kinect.

Rare’s Nick Burton told the web site, “Lag is not an issue. As with any prototype stuff, of course it was in the past. That’s to be expected. Where we’re at now, not at all. Yes, we’ve done a lot work to make sure it wasn’t a problem, but when you’ve got something that’s copying what you’re doing you can’t have a lot of lag.”

Rare is the developer behind Kinect Sports, a game touted as a sort of Wii Sports clone. Burton further noted that the lag for Kinect Sports is set at 150 ms. But it should be noted that this does not include television lag. We could possibly hear much more of this lag issue leading up to the November 4, 2010 Kinect release date.
