Lately, many numbers related to the next generation consoles have been released. Last week, NPD data showed that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV sold some 1.85 million copies in the first five days. Now the official NPD figures show that the Xbox 360 has sold more units than the original Xbox.
Delving deep into the numbers, the NPD data indicates that the Xbox 360 took some thirty months to reach the ten million units sold milestone. This is twenty percent faster than the original Xbox, which took some thirty-six months to reach the ten million milestone. Last week, the Xbox VP Don Mattrick had asserted, “History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle.”
Again, if you play around with the numbers, you notice that Microsoft’s next generation console will shift some 28.8 million units worldwide over a four-and-a-half-year life span, if it maintains the twenty percent sales margin over the Xbox.
