Amazon Fire TV is also Android-based gaming device apart from set-top box

Priced at 99.99 USD (approx. Rs 6,000), the Amazon Fire TV set-top box has been released in the US. Apart from being a device aimed at bringing viewers the latest TV shows and movies via streaming services like Netflix and Hulu Plus, this Android-based console can render games which you can play using its remote control or with a special controller that’s sold separately at a price of 39.99 USD (approx. Rs 2,400).

Games for Amazon Fire TV will work just like on Ouya and other similar consoles. But there’s a high-profile lineup of popular titles that are slated to be launched for it. These include a special version of Minecraft, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and more. Additionally, Amazon has also revealed a game of its own titled Sev Zero.

This set-top box has been equipped with an advanced array of specs as well. These include a quad core Snapdragon 8064 processor clocked 1.7GHz as well as 2GB worth of RAM. Its connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI. The controller which has been launched by Amazon kicks in dual analog sticks and standard input buttons, aside from a D-pad.

Since it’s also supposed to work with streaming apps, it houses play/pause, rewind and forward buttons. Moreover, Android-focused home, back and menu keys, shoulder buttons and triggers and more also form part of its attributes.

Amazon Fire TV can be purchased now through the retail giant’s official site at 99.99 USD (approx. Rs 6,000), but the controller will be made available later on. It can however be pre-ordered now at 39.99 USD (approx. Rs 2,400).
