Microsoft has just revealed that it doesn’t recommend you keeping the Xbox One in a vertical position. Issuing a warning of sorts, the company has said that this has nothing to do with heating issues, but is related to the Blue-ray disc drive which has made its way into the next generation console. And those who’d still prefer keeping the Xbox One consoles in vertical positions once they’re launched have been advised to ”˜do it at your own risk.’
At the ongoing Tokyo Game Show, Albert Panello, who’s the senior director of product management and planning at Xbox was speaking to Gamespot when he disclosed this bit of information. He clarified that keeping the Xbox One console in a vertical position will not result in cooling issues, however, the disc drive for the device has not been designed for the orientation, as it’s a slot loading drive. This explains why none of the promotional materials of the console show the device in a standing position.
Panello also had some figures to support his disclosure. According to him, only 20 per cent of the global Xbox 360 owners prefer positioning their consoles vertically. The PS4 on the other hand, has indeed been displayed in both orientations. The war between these two consoles is set to commence this November, when both are slated to be released across the globe.
While the Xbox One will be launched on November 22 priced at 499 USD (approx. Rs 31,000), the PS4 will be out on November 15 (North America) and November 29 (Europe) placed at 399 USD (approx. Rs 25,000).
