Razer Edge price listed out, device is an evolved version of last Project Fiona

The price for the Razer Edge has been revealed by its maker to have been set at a starting amount of 999 USD (approx. Rs. 54,590). Described as a full-feature PC and the most powerful tablet in the world, this device sure looks interesting if its specifications are anything to go by. Equipped with the latest Windows 8 platform, it is able to run usual PC games as a usual PC would. Dishonored for instance, runs on the hybrid device without any fuss, as claimed by the company.

One quick look at the Edge and most will be reminded of the Project Fiona gaming tablet prototype which was showcased at last year’s CES by Razer. At that time, it featured its own interface, as of course Windows 8 was not officially launched. But now, the whole product has come out in its final form, and is all set to have its release date set during sometime in the first quarter of 2013. Its maker is calling it a crowdsourced gaming tablet, as it seems that the Razer community was approached by it for making integral decisions such as the end-game chipset, weight, thickness, features and even cost.

Based on this feedback, the company has embedded it with Intel and Nvidia technologies, making it the only such system to utilize this association. Third generation Intel Core processors will be infused into it along with Nvidia GeForce graphics chipsets. Hailing it as a PC, a tablet and a console, Razer has disclosed that the Windows 8 operating system is the best-suited feature to handle all these responsibilities, while claiming that the ”˜most popular PC games’ will be able to run themselves natively on the device without the need to be ported, optimized or developed anew.

It will be made available in the form of a normal version and a Pro variant. The former comes equipped with an Intel Core i5 processor, an Nvidia GT640M LE GPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 64GB SSD, whereas the latter kicks in an upgraded Intel Core i7 chipset, an NVIDIA GT640M LE GPU, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128GB or a 256GB SSD. It can be used in four different modes – tablet mode, keyboard dock mode, gamepad controller mode and the docking station mode. The gamepad controller shown in the image above only comes with the Pro model. Those who purchase its normal model, will be able to connect their usual keyboards to its USB ports. Razer will also be releasing its own keyboard dock in Q3 of this year.
