Nvidia 3D Vision support comes to Unreal Engine 3

Remember games that portrayed stunning graphics like Batman Arkham Asylum, BioShock 2 and Borderlands? All these titles and many others have employed the Unreal Engine 3 formulated by Epic Games. Nvidia along with Epic Games have come together to reveal that Nvidia 3D Vision technology will now lend support to the Unreal Engine 3.

With this announcement, developers associated with the engine can provide gamers with a completely new level of immersion by utilizing the latest embedded technology. The free version of the UE3 dubbed as the Unreal Development Kit from Epic will also incorporate the 3D Vision support. Developers can also expect to receive an updated version of the Unreal Engine 3 and Unreal Development Kit in the future.

Tony Tamasi, vice president of content and technology at Nvidia commented, “Having the number one 3D engine on the planet embrace 3D Vision is fantastic news for UE3 licensees, UDK users and gamers. It’s now easier than ever to add state-of-the-art stereoscopic 3D effects to your Unreal Engine 3-based creations.”

Mark Rein, vice president at Epic Games stated, “The combination of Unreal Engine 3 and 3D Vision makes already amazing games even more jaw dropping. If you haven’t seen Unreal Engine 3 in 3D, you won’t believe how realistic it is! We’re excited to offer this technology for free to our licensees and can’t wait to see what people create with it.”

He further added, “Epic and Nvidia share a commitment to advancing the state of PC gaming. The addition of 3D Vision support to our Unreal Engine 3 will dramatically enhance the gaming experience. We are very excited to see the future of gaming in 3D.”

3D Vision has the ability to support PC gaming, videos, photographs, 3D Web browsing and Blu-ray 3D. The offering comprises of wireless glasses and wireless USB emitter which can be teamed up with 120Hz desktop LCDs as well as 3D projectors and TVs. Users will also need a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX or higher GPU. According to the official Nvidia blog, developers can employ stereoscopic 3D effects to their PC games in the future thanks to the latest Nvidia 3D Vision technology inclusion

An on-hands demo was made available to attendees of the Game Developer’s Conference which took place in San Francisco recently.
